A featured story (in three parts no less) at the Council of Supply Chain Management’s website describes the Theory of Base6 – Successfully implementing the lean supply chain<\/a>. The authors of the article are Robert Martichenko and Dr. Thomas Goldsby. In the first part of the article, a list of persistent ideas in business are listed on account o fthe fact that these ideas have some value proposition. The list includes:<\/p>\n

  1. Total Quality Management – Dr. W. Edwards Deming influence<\/li>\n
  2. Six Sigma – Dr. W. Edwards Deming influence – Motorola and GE developed<\/li>\n
  3. Lean Manufacturing – Dr. W. Edwards Deming influence -Taiichi Ohno, Eiji Toyoda, Shigeo Shingo, Toyota Motor Manufacturing developed<\/li>\n
  4. Theory of Constraints – Eliyahu Goldratt<\/li>\n
  5. ISO Certification – influenced by engineering groups from many countries<\/li>\n
  6. Good to Great – Jim Collins<\/li>\n
  7. Seven Habits of Highly Effective People – Steven Covey<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/blockquote>\n

    Further, they distil the above business ideas around six common themes (hence, i suppose the term Base6) which are:<\/p>\n

    3. Process Management<\/li>\n
    4. Teamwork<\/li>\n
    5. Quality at the Root<\/li>\n

      Each theme is then expanded briefly in their article. I am waiting for the next part in the series to see how these themes are fleshed out in greater detail and how these themes are linked up towards developing and implementing a lean supply chain.<\/p>\n
