Great analysis of a very complex discussion. The failure of the implicit activity of the ERP, APS, etc. is that their association to the people process (and really the transactions that those people have to perform to comply with its requirements)is directive and rigid.

Core data requirements of these systems are incapable of adapting quickly enough simply because of their architecture: regardless of age or sophistication of the system. These applications place fatal limits on the ability of a company to improve its people processes and foster/develop/innovate the improvements across their entire supply chain.

Current architectures and their associated supply chains (manufacturing labor, distribution labor, error reduction, trade promotion, IT and inventory carrying costs) cost $8.29 per case. By adapting an REA-like abstraction layer, cost savings of $1.79 per case is possible.
